I need to be out of Innis College by the 29th, and so far haven’t found anything close to an affordable and acceptable replacement. All the on-campus residences that take grad students seem to be full, and all efforts through Craigslist, Kijiji, and Padmapper have been failures so far.
Alongside the development of my formal PhD proposal, finding housing needs to be my top priority for the rest of August.

In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. In the fall of 2005, I began reading for an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford.
Outside school, I am very interested in photography, writing, and the outdoors. I am writing this blog to keep in touch with friends and family around the world, provide a more personal view of graduate student life in Oxford, and pass on some lessons I've learned here.

Have you looked into any housing coops? They are often affordable and much more friendly. there are several in Vancouver at all kinds of price ranges.
I have been calling through a list of Toronto co-ops, with no luck so far.
I also tried the campus student co-op, but their houses seem to be in really bad shape and are also quite expensive.
For example, the Peregrine Co-op has a waiting list of three years and units that cost at least $942 / month.
Living with a family may be the best bet. Sometimes an older couple wants a student to help with some chores or yard work and you are very strong.
