Yesterday, at University College, there was a Holi celebration. I got some photos.

In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. In the fall of 2005, I began reading for an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford. Outside school, I am very interested in photography, writing, and the outdoors. I am writing this blog to keep in touch with friends and family around the world, provide a more personal view of graduate student life in Oxford, and pass on some lessons I've learned here. Looks like a lot of fun. Have you watched Mica’s “holi” vimeo from India? It is cheerful.
Holi Zorbing!
How did you create the effect of the constant blowing of powder?
It’s an animated GIF compiled from several photographs.
How did you protect your lenses from the dust?
I was using Canon’s 24-70 f/2.8L lens, which I think is considered weather-sealed. My 5D Mark II body is not, however, so I wrapped it in a plastic bag with a hole for the lens. It still has bits of paint ground into some of the controls.
In the end, you have to choose between keeping your equipment safely in a box or studio and being able to get photos in interesting conditions.
