In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. In the fall of 2005, I began reading for an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford. Outside school, I am very interested in photography, writing, and the outdoors. I am writing this blog to keep in touch with friends and family around the world, provide a more personal view of graduate student life in Oxford, and pass on some lessons I've learned here.

  1. The first photo was taken at the Canadian High Commissioner’s Residence at 3 Grosvenor Square in London.

  2. Those are cool photos to have. Perhaps you will meet again in a totally different setting and you can make a triptych.

  3. Interesting stuff Rhian. With so much at stake and world leaders pitutng their own spin on things it’s really hard for the general public to know what to believe. I think part of the problem is that there isn’t really a clear picture in the average person’s mind on what it all means. The best explanation I’ve seen was from a couple of graphs I saw on a poster at BAS while I was there:The first one shows how closely linked carbon dioxide levels are to temperature, the second how humans have affected the carbon dioxide levels over the last couple of centuries.I hadn’t seen that information before then and I still remember how amazed I was that I’d somehow missed what should really be common knowledge. I reckon if everyone in the world was sat down and had those graphs explained to them people might start taking it all a bit more seriously!
