Before it goes up on eBay, I thought I should privately advertise the ability of a 256 meg stick of laptop RAM. I originally bought it directly from Apple, along with my 14″ G4 iBook and have since replaced it with a 1GB stick. It is in perfect working order, and should work with any laptop that takes 200pin PC2700 RAM. This includes all G3 and G4 iBooks and Powerbooks.
I would prefer to sell it directly, thus saving both me and the buyer from having to pay eBay and PayPal fees. Naturally, this would be easiest with someone in Oxford, but I am willing to ship it as well. I know it’s not a great deal of RAM, but it is enough to make a considerable difference for someone running a system with just 256 or 512 megs now.
A rough, ballpark estimation for the value of the RAM (based on the prices at Crucial) is about C$50 or £25. If you are running a G4 iBook or Powerbook with just 256 megs, I can basically guarantee you the performance increase would justify such an outlay.
The sale price, to be agreed later, will include an attractive pink anti-static bag, shipping (if needed), and a guarantee that if it doesn’t work for you, I will take it back and refund your money. Finally, I am willing to trade the RAM for something that is of equivalent value to me. Creative offers are encouraged.
On the basis of all this non-enthusiasm, I will be putting the RAM on eBay in three days or so.
The RAM is now listed on eBay.
The RAM finally has a bid. Just 10 quid at the moment, but I expect it to jump as the auction comes to an end.
The RAM sold for the paltry sum of GBP 10.00
I really expected someone to bid it up in the last minutes. Alas, I am now bound to sell it for that amount. I spent twice that on groceries, just tonight.
