In his capacity as Vice President of the UBC Radical Beer Faction, my friend Mike got interviewed by the CBC. You can listen to the interview over at the UBC Insider blog.
Brief reference to the RBF has already been made on this blog. You can see Mike’s personal blog – Twilight City – here.

In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. In the fall of 2005, I began reading for an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford.
Outside school, I am very interested in photography, writing, and the outdoors. I am writing this blog to keep in touch with friends and family around the world, provide a more personal view of graduate student life in Oxford, and pass on some lessons I've learned here.

The loss of beer gardens and the RBF – and the general decline of fun at UBC – are documented in this ‘nerd girl’ blog post.
Since when has the RBF declined? Isn’t it being run by the likes of Mike K and his band of roving hooligans?
Even if it isn’t at UBC, the RBF lives on in perchance meetings and happenings, as one of the spiritual legacies of the ATS. I think most importantly though, both the RBF’s 2nd revival and the ATS were not institutional, top down impositions of culture, but creative alliances which blossomed organically. At least UBC is the kind of place where that kind of thing can happen, where people don’t take themselves too seriously – I can hardly imagine anything similar happening at York or U of T.
I have no direct experience of UBC since I graduated in 2005. Even then, they had already clamped down significantly on beer gardens.
The Radical beer faction has a blog.
